A little taste of Europe in Gulf Gate.
The Gulf Gate area of Sarasota has a concentration of bars, clubs, restaurants, pubs, sandwich shops, and retail stores all in a 2-3 block concentration off of Gulf Gate Drive. With the exception of downtown Sarasota, it has the greatest concentration of eating establishments within Sarasota. It is unique and a fun place to visit. Nestled in the middle of this Gulf Gate area is a small, charming restaurant, Paris to Budapest. Run by a Hungarian/French married couple, Paris to Budapest offers a great style of French and Hungarian food with some Caribbean influence apparent as well.
We visited the restaurant for dinner and had the following:
Goulash: Their signature soup $7.00
Colorful, spicy but not overpowering, a nice 1st plate.
Salmon Caribbean Style: Grilled salmon served with a coconut curry sauce served with rice $18.50
Sweet, fresh and very flavorful, recommended to us by another patron and it was a good tip.
Curry Lamb Stew: Chunks of lamb in a smoky broth served with rice $18.50
Smoky sweet, rich, thick and delicious.
Paris to Budapest offers a fine selection of beers and wine to accompany your meal.
We found our experience to be a pleasant one. The service was very attentive and the décor charming. The menu is varied and offers a fine selection of continental cuisine. If you are looking for something just a little bit out of the ordinary, I would not hesitate to try Paris to Budapest.
