Daawat…loosely translated…an invitation.
Daawat Indian Cuisine and Wine Bar, located in Towles Court is as inviting as it gets. A charmed setting (the former Canvas Café) in a small cottage with white picket fence, outdoor seating, a casual front porch, bright lighting, fragrant spices, and sizzling plates, all cuing up your senses in anticipation of the meal.
Providing a mélange of flavors and spices ranging from mild to hot, specialty breads, chicken, seafood, lamb and vegetarian dishes, Indian cuisine offers a wide range of choice. Chef Raj has over 25 years experience preparing Indian cuisine, so we were anxious to try some of his specialites. For our dinner we chose the following:
Vegetable Samosa: Crispy puff pastry stuffed with vegetables and spices. $3.95
Crispy and flavorful
Aloo Naan: Fine flour bread stuffed with potatoes, coriander, and spices baked in a clay oven. $3.95
Delicious. Could be a meal onto itself.
Chicken Tikka: A tandoori* special. Tandoor is a traditional clay oven, heated with natural charcoal. Boneless chicken marinated in yogurt, saffron and spices. $15.95
Colorful, nicely spiced (no heat), moist chicken, crispy vegetables
Lamb Vindaloo: Highly spiced lamb in sharp and tangy sauce. (hot) $14.95
Rich flavor with the right amount of heat
All of the food was well prepared, nicely presented in individual serving vessels and accompanied with basmati rice. There is a selective list of beer and wine to accompany the meal. We chose an Indian beer, the Taj Mahal, as our beverage.
With its cozy comfortable setting, fragrant flavorful food, and authentic Indian cuisine, Daawat is setting a standard for fine Indian dining.
