it seems this has been an issue for years.
https://www.quora.com/Why-does-YouTube-delete-all-my-comments-within-seconds-even-if-my-comment-is-not-at-all-negative
- youtube doesn’t tell you which policy you violated before deleting your comment.
- youtube doesn’t tell you what words or combination of words, causes your entire comment to be deleted
- youtube doesn’t tell you what topic of conversation is prohibited for which channel.
- different youtube channels have different political leanings that seem to delete comments that have a dissenting opinion.
- etc..
case in point. here’s an example : i tried to comment in CNN, Channel 4, Fox, etc.. that “UN/WHO/UNRWA should evacuate gazan hospitals and bring the patients (especially the nursery babies and patients in critical conditions requiring life support) to floating hospitals or israeli/egyptian hospitals outside of the conflict zone, to keep them safe so that hamas can no longer use those civilians as human shields.”
but for some reason, youtube keeps deleting that comment. though i still don’t get which part of that statement ever violated youtube policy?
inb4 : politics.
i just used that as an example. i could talk about bees or pineapples or cheese or whatever. gist is, i’m just trying to figure out what are the key words that are being tagged by youtube algorithm for deletion.
is there a list somewhere we can check which words or combination of words being targeted for auto-deletion?
or does this have something to do about getting shadow banned by a channel? is it possible to check if you are being shadow banned and if so, what are the guarantees that youtube isn’t just using shadow ban as a way to manipulate public discourse?
I’m really glad I saw this post because I am now sure my comments are being heavily limited. My comments have been removed a lot lately and the last some didn’t even have anything crazy, just “If we all thought like that, the human race would be doomed.” Was it doomed? Race? The combination? Is AI trying to make sure we aren’t worried about a doomsday scenario? lol I don’t know and it’s so irritating.
Meanwhile YouTube can’t do anything about bots spamming the same thing over and over again.
The automatic detection is complete garbage. For example a few days ago I watched a video where two people crossed the Isle of Man in a complete straight line and the other person accidentally treaded on a dead sheep. There was a comment with a timestamp and I commented:
“Yikes that is the most disgusting thing I have seen in a while. Why it is so green!”
YouTube removed the comment.
This year has been especially bad for YouTube. It’s making me basically quit. I can’t comment anything anymore. They’ve been deleting politically charged comments from the opposite side for a while so I’m used to that, but nowadays I can’t even post on an Elden Ring trailer video anymore. Completely non-political. Zero swear words, zero links, zero advertisements or search suggestions. Just observations, maybe with a timestamp at most. And then I refresh the page specifically to check, and lo and behold the comment will be gone.
Just making a joke about Skull and Bones is too much for them these days. YouTube is a dumb mess that keeps getting worse.
YouTube is fucking garbage lately with comments.. They keep deleting my comments a lot of the time even if i didn’t use any bad words in it, as if i’m shadowbanned or something.. Idk.. But it’s getting really on my nerves..
Just today, I tried posting the following to one of Louis Rossmann’s videos:
“People need to be searching for either Littelfuse or Cooper Bussmann when shopping for automotive fuses. Littelfuse specifically, is used as a technical standard by the SAE for VERY GOOD REASON. While Amazon isn’t innocent of nefariousness, it pays to search for a known brand. Again, people need to be searching for Littelfuse or Cooper Bussmann fuses. These brands do, in fact, exist on Amazon and the prices are very affordable. As I see it, Amazon and eBay are necessary evils. I can’t just stop using them cold-turkey just because there are shitty products being peddled by unscrupulous vendors as I benefit too much from the convenience those marketplaces provide. However, with my technical knowledge being what it is, I do my very best to buy things that are of reputable quality as much as possible. I hope this comment will be seen and will help those who see it.”
In that video, Louis was talking about Amazon’s seeming lacking willingness to remove products deemed dangerous for safe use and the specific case was crappily designed automotive fuses that are being pawned off for less than a pittance by random-letter string-named Chinese vendors. Granted, I’m not very active in the YouTube comments, but on occasion, I’ll put a comment in there if the subject motivates me enough. Of course, THIS comment kept getting the auto-delete middle-finger treatment and I just got irritated with it and posted nothing. No, I don’t believe I’m being blocked by Louis. Yes, I DO believe that YouTube is engaged in “sanitization” of comments, though I fail to see what in my comment above is OH SO BAD that it MUST get auto-deleted. It’ll go through all the motions like “normal”, but a quick refresh of the page reveals my comment never having gone through. Really, REALLY kills my chill, if you don’t mind my saying.
I believe my account was flagged after having a few arguments with people that didn’t end in their favour and so they reported me. Since then, which is a few years ago now, I can’t place links in my comments and have to avoid a long list of words (the extent of which seems to be ever growing) unless I want my comment to be immediately deleted.
Individual channel settings as per their owners may be part of it, but it’s definitely not all.
Shadow banning is just pure evil. You can check whether your comment is still visible by others if you log in on another YouTube account, or even if you just log out, I think.
You can bet your behind that it’s a means to manipulate. To what extent, I have no idea.
