I’ve been trying for weeks to install a VPN but I have no idea how to do it.
If someone is offering a free VPN service, it’s probably a scam. Running a VPN costs money and that money has to come from somewhere.
I personally use PIA VPN. It seems to work fairly well.
For hosting it yourself or just for connecting, because I wouldn’t use a free VPN if it means someone else is hosting it.
There’s a way to install OpenVPN using Docker. Just follow the steps and you’ll be fine.
I would recommend one of these:
https://windscribe.com/guides/linux
But I don’t think they’re open-source. I guess the OpenVPN client part of ProtonVPN is.
Just to inform you, in case you didn’t hear, think it was like 6+ months ago now, PIA sold the company to a Chinese firm. Don’t know exactly what that means yet, but it’s something you should be aware of if you’re using PIA.
Still using my account as well but am somewhat concerned about the recent buyout.
Many reputable VPN services have a limited free option, offered in the hope you will upgrade to the paid service.
I would tell you if I knew. I think just for hosting myself.
Thanks for the info. Any alternatives I could look into?
Who bought them? I haven’t heard about this.
