McAfee is useless bloatware. Your operating system is going to handle like 99% of threats itself.
As long as you aren’t doing sketchy shit you shouldn’t need anything beyond what comes with your device, especially not fucking McAfee.

Windows Defender. Comes standard. It’s actually good and you don’t need anything else.
There was a time when extra antivirus was essential but that’s not really the case any longer. If you have something happen, computer is acting weird or whatever, and you want to be extra safe you can download malwarebytes, install it, run a scan, and then immediately uninstall it. All these products that use to be good and recommended, McAfee, norton, etc, are just shitty bloat these days.
McAfee is one of the worst security suites available, so I would actually consider this a win for Rogers/Shaw customers. I would say it’s objectively worse than Windows Defender, which comes free with the past few versions of Windows by default.
One good thing Roger’s is doing then, as others have already made clear McAffee is terrible and probably hasn’t been protecting you any better than if you had it turned off and just relied upon Window’s and Microsoft’s own AVs.
Even if you aren’t doing anything sketchy and never visit anything like porn sites etc there can be malicious infections of ad deliveries and so on (also why I’ve used an ad blocker since forever ago, uBlock Origin is still great).
Personally I use ESET on top of that after some researching last year as my partner really felt better with an additional one and it is pretty lightweight and well rated. BitDefender seems effective too but not the most lightweight, and Kaspersky is also good afaik but they’re Russian.
If you’re on Windows, Defender is all you need.
McAfee is worse than a virus.
You don’t really need an antivirus these days other that what is baked in your OS. If you’re using Windows 11, the security that comes with it is all you really need, unless you’re doing something really dumb or clicking on dodgy links.
it’s fine, McAfee is just a badge for your desktop that says “I’m not great with computers”.

I quite like Bitdefender, it’s one of the better rated ones.
Although do watch out for their auto-renewal, one tactic of anti-virus software is the always on sale price, it’s pretty much always 40-50% off, but if you let the auto-renewal happen, you’ll end up paying a tonne. Also seemingly it’s cheaper to buy the boxed version at Bestbuy, they usually have a 3 year license for a fraction of what it costs online.
McAfee is useless garbage - this is GOOD news!!
Mcafee is garbage, their doing you a favour. It protects against almost nothing your OS doesnt already deal with.
