ProtonVPN doesnt not connect on Kali in WSL2

Your answer is in that first note: Ensure you have internet connectivity.

One thing to remember about Kali is that every network signal you send, you have to allow. It’s designed to be as quiet as possible, there’s no updates, no allowed networks, or anything else.

Without knowing what network setup you have, this isn’t really possible to diagnose.

Remember Kali runs on a default of Debian Unstable, with all networking features disabled. Find out which feature that’s disabled is interfering with your VPN, and you can work out this issue.

make sure to be running it as root

Or you can use kaliwhoami as vpn for ip mac and dns

I had the same issue with ProtonVPN, let me know if you find a resolution.

I am root and internet is working

Is the internet working on the Kali box without the VPN? Just saying you have internet tells me nothing, is this wired or wifi?

Does this vpn work on other devices on the same network?

Is this bare metal? A vm? If it’s a vm which one? Is it a remote server on cloud services? All of these have different steps.

Did you disable the kill switch for the VPN?

Does the checksum verify for the app?

Do other vpns work on the Kali box aside from this one?

Is the port unblocked to allow the VPN?

Break the problem down, all of these questions have to be answered and all are possible causes of it not working. After all of those are answered we get into proton VPN specific answers if none of the above are the cause.

As I said before something being disabled that should be enabled on a normal Linux.
