Need help! Asking for a friend who is totally new to vpn going to start a remote sales job. He lives 4 days in California US but spends 3 days in méxico every week

Wanted to know how one can protect their out of country location from the employer while calling from méxico to remain from California . All comments welcome

Keep a machine at California home. Run a VPN server on it. (I prefer OpenVPN for generality.) Port-forward the appropriate port through your ISP’s gateway box to the machine running the server. Run VPN client on Mexico machine, connect to California VPN server, route all traffic through VPN. Or just route all company-aimed traffic through VPN.
