Just realized that Apple has something closely similar to Tor

https://support.apple.com/en-in/102602

They call it “iCloud Private Relay”.
However on contrary to Tor, it has 2 relays.
One is run by Apple, other by a 3rd party.

lack of a 3rd relay defeats the purpose of the whole thing

Truist rule of thumb goes: If it’s made by a big corpo making money off profiling, then it’s not safe.

You shouldn’t trust it for anonymity purposes.

It just hides your IP address, nothing more.

I think of it more like a Safari-only VPN. And only works in your country & timezone.

Private relay is two-hop. Tor is 3.

You need 3 hops for optimum anonymity.

Yea I’m going to trust my data passing through Apple lol

Interestingly if you deny automatic access to the keychain you will get prompted for access to it for this purpose regularly, and this is poorly documented.
Here are some related log and details and the official page from apple

There’s also The Onion, it’s pretty similar to tor since they both use an allium as their logo… /s
