Every time you connect to anything online, Minecraft servers, websites, apps, you give them your IP address. And yes, it can be used to find out where you live. You can bypass this with a VPN.
Knowing an IP can be used to find a rough location, but any time you use the internet in any capacity, every website and webservice you use receives your IP by neccessity (as well as many other far more identifiable pieces of information such as your Operating System, Screen Size, System Specs, desired language, etc, etc). It’s not something to worry about unless you plan on doing something illegal in your country. VPN’s can be used in such cases, although this just replaces your IP with that of the VPN server host you connect to, who are themselves are more than capable of reading through everything you send to their servers.

No lol, hacking is so much more different than what most people see on movies… Also if anyone is interesting in watching a show that has actual real life representation of hacking id highly suggest checking out Mr Robot.

They can find out where you live like country/city but they can’t find out ur exact home address. Worst case scenario someone can DDOS you if they have ur IP if they have like a powerful botnet array, idk why would someone wanna do that but yeah.
If ur really like that paranoid about ur privacy or whatever id suggest getting a VPN
If it’s a big server, it’s likely they won’t do anything with your IP, or at most record it for preventing ban evasion. Theoretically, they can hack, but the chances of this on a regular server are slim to none.
I’m responding, because someone else told you that you cannot be hacked. Although having your IP address doesn’t make you directly prone to being hacked, it does tell those with ill intent where you are - a starting point for an attack.
Various techniques like a port scan can determine if you have any well-known vulnerabilities that can exploited. It would be analogous to someone coming over after they learned your address and seeing if you keep all your doors and windows locked.
I’ve been to a few sketchy sites and then seconds later gotten a notification from my intrusion detection system that there was an attempt. So it happens.

as far as i know, they can determine the city/town/village pretty exactly. then, accuracy decreases. happy to have others jump in
Your postal code at best. An IP address is just a way to indicate which computer is being communicated to, and is assigned to you by your Internet provider based on your geography. Typically the IP assignments within a region are shuffled every few days. They aren’t correlated with a physical home address, but will be connected to a region. Any website or online service you use will be able to see this IP address when you connect to them. This is fine; having the destination address doesn’t mean they can do anything to the computer unless the device is already compromised.
The Internet could not work if revealing or sharing your IP address immediately opened your computer up to attack.
