How can I get IPv6 started for me

Hey guys help me out I need IPv6 but my ISP does not support it AS7459 is my ISP but my router is a TP-LINK Archer AX1800 and I want IPv6 (I don’t want to switch ISPS)but I just want IPv6 may I have some suggestions on what to do my router has dynamic ip static ip pppoe 6to4 (not manual settings) and bridge mode what did I do here I can’t use a VPN on it (not IPv6) but I just need to know how I’m going to do it anyways hope that everyone is having a good day or good night and I will check comments tomorrow

The best thing to do is complaining to your ISP and switching ISPs if there’s no progress in IPv6 implementation.

Some companies will not do shit until they start losing customers.

Tunnel solutions are often half-baked and the IPs you get from either HE, VPNs or your own VPN on a VPS are blacklisted by some sites, so no streaming and a lot of captchas.

AS7459 is mygrande.com, correct?

That link redirects to https://www.astound.com/texas/ … still correct?

On https://www.astound.com/support/internet/symmetrical/ it reads

Does Astound Support IPv6?

Astound supports IPv6 in most locations*.

Did you read that page?

You can get an IPv4 to IPv6 tunnel from Hurricane Electric for free.

Having said that, it’s essentially a VPN-like tunnel with extra latency and potential speed limitations. You can set it up in pfSense and possibly with ither routers as well, but that’s how I used it.

Punctuation and capitalization are good things. It’s painful to try to read your run-on post without them.

Try Hurricane Electric’s Tunnelbroker for a free IPv6 block and tunnel.

If u just want ipv6 access then you can use cloudflare warp. It’s pretty fast too for a free service

Also I want IPv6 so I can reach IPv6 only websites and use it on my Xbox also dumb question but can you use IPv6 if IPv4 is down

Setup IPv6 on your local network using ULA and slaac so you can at least use it internally to learn more about it.

Why do you want IPv6? Both IPv4 and IPv6 are similar and the only difference is IPv6 has more address space. However, ISPs using IPv4 are starting to conserve the limited IPv4 address space by charging a premium fee. Example Akamai Linode charges US $2 per month for IPv4 address space. This premium fee can prevent IPv4 address space from being used for abusive purpose such as spam, DDOS, etc. Even if you can get an IPv6 address, ISPs in my area do not give an entire /64 but just a /128. VPSMALAYSIA.COM.MY, which is a great ISP gives its customer just one IPv6 address (a /128) and if more is required then the customer must pay a premium fee. This is so IPv6 will not threaten IPv4 as both will be equal in terms of competition. Also, there is nothing as a free lunch, so giving a /64 IPv6 address for free is just not right.

Running an email server on IPv6 is discourage since Spamhaus blacklists an entire /64 if they find an abusive /128. Receiving email can be done on IPv6 or IPv4 but sending email, you still need IPv4 as SMTP services like PostMarkApp, SparkPostMail, and MailChimp are all IPv4 only.

But if you are on a network that does not have IPv6 and is IPv4 only, you can rent a dual stack VPS from www.cinfu.com and get FREE 25 IPv6 addresses, which you can use for your local network if they require public IP addresses.

Ahh ok then I will complain to my isp they have a bunch of ranges for IPv6 and are not providing IPv6 to me but also I forgot to mention that my router that I mentioned is behimd another router the model is an eero pro 2 and supports IPv6

IPv6 can be used for private networking for example, using fe80 for local network. But for public networks, IPv4 must be continue to be used. The implementation of IPv6 in Malaysia is unstable and even if all telco-ISPs support IPv6. Take VPSMALAYSIA.COM.MY as an example as an ISP that does not provide a /64 but only a /128 for free and more IPv6 can be added at a premium fee.

The OP should buy own IPv6 block from APNIC. In order to do that, OP must be a registered organisation that has proof of legal incorporation with a national government. With own IPv6 block, both Vultr and Microsoft Azure will allow to bring in your IPv6 block, so you will have a clean IP address that is not blacklisted.

But if they are not going to respond to me and not give me IPv6 what should I do I have static ip but don’t know what I can do with that

Btw have you looked up the ASN if not it is AS7459

Yes AS7459 is grande but astound broadband is providing it from grande

Well here is the thing I can’t do 6in4 at all because my router can’t do that option

Yeah sorry about that I’m just bad at it

Oh I did it’s just that I found out that my router does not support 6in4 nor 6to4 well at least manually but no support at all for 6in4 but I just want to use IPv6 and maybe IPv4 but not for long IPv4

May I have the link the that please

want IPv6 so I can reach IPv6 only websites

There are basically zero of those, with the exception of IPv6 testing sites and little hobby sites just just do v6-only for fun. No major (or even tiny) service is IPv6 only because they’d lose soooo many potential customers.

can you use IPv6 if IPv4 is down

IPv4 is so much easier (due to decades of familiarity) to keep up and running for most network admins… if your v4 is down, I really doubt your v6 will be working.
