What’s the cheapest device that could act as a remote end for a firewalla site to site link? Would a raspberry pi 4b do it, running wireguard or freeswan/openswan?
I want to establish a site to site vpn with my brothers house and I have a firewalla gold plus. I’d love to talk my brother into getting a firewalla but they’re too pricey for him unfortunately and he wouldn’t really fiddle with it like I do with mine. So what’s a cheap solution to interface his home network with mine using my firewalla, openwrt? Asus merlin? Raspberry pi?
You can do site to site, I do that with 2 different RPi into my gold. It requires you to ssh into your gold and make one internal redis modification and it will do site to site…. Or like the other said, you could have the Pi VPN into the Gold, and have the Gold VPN into the Pi. Set up a VPN server on the Pi.
Make sure both subnets are different.

Curious about what internal redis modification you made?
Firewalla can interface site to site with that? Is it just wireguard for site to site?
Just sent you a DM with the commands.
It won’t be site-to-site, it’ll just be a remote access VPN from your brother’s network to yours.
Just Wireguard and it’s easy.
I need our computers to be able to access each other, 2-way. A real site-to-site.
Awesome. I was against him using that stripped down “gateway” AT&T gave him anywaysv so this looks better. I’d love for him to get a firewalla but he’s not enough a power user to justify the cost. But I can convince him to spend $89 for this at least and it’ll be worlds best more capable and powerful. Thanks.
If your brother sets up a VPN server, you can configure a review access VPN on your firewalla and set up policy based routes to use that VPN when you connect to IP s on your brother’s LAN.
Firewalla site-to-site connections are initiated on the client side, and the routing is configured behind the scenes. Both ends need to be firewalla boxes for that to work out of the box.
