Chatgpt constantly have to hit refresh to use

since their customer service is non-existent which is basically the trend these days. Im writing it here,

anyone else experienced this, have to basically refresh the page each time there’s a new question, and Im a plus user. Hard to be productive and stay in the flow of things with this issue

Same. I find this happens when I’m in chrome and I have 2 got tabs open. I also have pro. I think they’re trying to stop people who share logins maybe???

Yep. ChatGPT is the buggiest website I’ve ever used but it’s so damn useful I am willing to put up with it.

I’ve been using Claude a lot recently and am very impressed. Lower demand so there are much fewer uses. UI isn’t as good tho.

I mean it only does it to me if it “times out.” As in I’ve been inactive for too long. Makes sense.

ChatGPT doesn’t charge for usage if you use the “human” interface even though it’s exactly the same product offered through their API. They just have super strict auth rules to make sure it’s ctually a human using it and it probably gets a little confused if you have more than one tab open and/or are using the API while you’re chatting with it. It happens less if you keep the tab in focus on another screen and at least click on the window every minute or so.

I’ve found the issue to be more common. My only concern is that sometimes it requests for me to complete a captcha, which means it might be mistaking my traffic for bot traffic, which doesn’t make sense because I’m not blasting them with requests. I’m guessing there were some bugs pushed to the client recently, but who knows.

Chrome/edge put tabs to sleep.

They use Cloudflare as protection and Cloudflare requires a script to run on your browser to verify you. That script is loaded when you are on the checking page that you get before the actual ChatGPT page. This process will grant you access temporarily. You can stay on the already loaded page as long you want but as the actions you take requires to send a request that request might get rejected if your access is expired. So Cloudflare needs to add a feature that will inject or will give you a script tag that you can put on your website that will refresh your verification continously which is not a bad practice for the verification system.

I just hit refresh out of habit now. I barely even think about it.

Its gone downhill this week. I also have to refresh even after like 10min with no activity. It also loses context easily now. Was busy asking it about a complex sql script and all of a sudden it started explaining stuff that wasnt even in the conversation. Its also never definite, everytime i ask ‘are you sure that’s correct’ it apologises then gives another answer.

I’d say that’s a very small issue compared to the capabilities you are able to access. First world problems :smiling_face_with_tear:

Did you manage to fix this?

Oh, I thought that it would be because I use an VPN.

They’ve started doing this to confirm users are actually human. If you’re idle too long you have to refresh. Occasionally you’ll have to verify your humanity by clicking a little box.

I suspect they’re getting hit by bots, DDOS attacks, and the like.

It’s been happening to me a lot lately too. Even short amount of times of inactivity (like less than a minute) cause errors

Happens to me frequently across multiple devices. Will have to refresh and reload the convo then it works fine until I go do something else for a bit.

Yeah, sometimes happens when I enter a new input. I always make sure to copy what I wrote when I see that red error message.

Use the API to reduce bandwidth problem

Yeah I experienced that a bit yesterday and today actually.

I also use a VPN and was having this issue with chrome and eventually all browsers until I stopped using said VPN.
